This is a great average size colander that will serve most all purposes.  I use a colander most for rinsing fruits and vegetables, and draining things like pasta.  If  I have a very high fat meat, I sometimes put it in a colander to drain the fat, but I find I do it into a stainless bowl as the fat causes drain problems if put down the sink.  Once it has cooled, I scrape from the bowl into the garbage.  A colander is another nice option for displaying fruits and vegetables on a table or counter.
